VCOIN - Overview

VCOIN is a cryptocurrency which was introduced and built exclusively for IMVU. This allows users to buy, gift, and even withdraw this new currency into REAL money, or trade it for another cryptocurrency. The new currency didn’t replace the existing currency in IMVU, but was an additional type.

The Objective

Build a new currency while fostering the idea of building friendship through gifting and shared experience. Adding this new currency not only achieved this, but also was an opportunity to be a successful, revenue generating feature. One of the problems experienced was not to overshadow the existing currency and ecosystem with this new type. Another challenge was to make this currency not only easily accessible, but also as safe and secure as possible.

Planning

Understanding on a deep level how our current Credits ecosystem works was the beginning of planning. From there, comparative analysis with other cryptocurrency wallets and other games/products with multiple currency types to figure out what works, and what doesn’t. Taking these findings and the product requirements into consideration, I was able to make some rough wireframes which went through multiple rounds of user testing before moving onto visual design.

Design

After making and testing my rough wireframes countless times with a variety of users, I made multiple rounds of revisions and retested. After things started to go smoothly with users, I was ready to move on to the visual design process. A challenge here was making the new currency stand out, but also to inherit our design styles and system from IMVU. After a couple rounds of visual design iterations, I was ready to present my results.

The Result

After completing the majority of the designs, I presented my VCOIN project to the CEO, the executive team and many others affiliated with the project and it’s success. After a small amount of feedback, I worked with engineers, QA, and others to implement our new VCOIN feature.
